About San Antonio Taco Company

San Antonio Taco Company was conceived by two Vanderbilt University graduates and natives of San Antonio, Texas. A corporation was founded in July of 1984 to develop and operate a Tex-Mex restaurant in Nashville.

The first restaurant, located on 21st Avenue in the Vanderbilt area of Nashville, opened in the fall. Both founders worked the counter and in the kitchen.

San Antonio Taco Company (SATCO) caught on quickly with locals, who included students from Vanderbilt University, professionals from Vanderbilt Hospital across the street, and artists from the nearby "Music Row" neighborhood.

By March of 1987, SATCO was a huge success. The owners opened a second location in downtown Nashville. This second restaurant was an "urban pioneer" -- setting up shop long before the downtown area was revitalized into the contemporary commercial center it is today. This second location on Commerce Street was decorated according to a more upscale theme to reflect the more formal business atmosphere of the area.

In November of 1990, the original owners sold SATCO to two other Vanderbilt graduates -- keeping the tradition alive.

These days, SATCO is practically a Nashville landmark and enjoys an endless patronage of students and professionals alike. People visit the 21st Avenue location to experience the great open deck atmosphere. The Commerce Street location is a favorite among Nashville's business professionals. SATCO has become so popular that people began to clamor for SATCO at their functions, prompting SATCO to start catering. Now you can enjoy SATCO at two locations in Nashville or get them to come to you and cook for your function!
